The first season of Empire is based on Lucious Lyon the undisputed CEO of Empire entertainment but his medical challenge throws up a need to find a new heir.
As both writer and director of "The Lyon's Roar," [Danny Strong] managed to crank out an episode rife with big and little moments of drama, while maintaining a bit of Lee Daniels melodrama to boot.
Man, Lucious is a really hard character to like, isn't he? Terrence Howard is a gifted actor and he plays Lucious as a very cold, calculating man, but he hits the emotional beats so well that you can go from hating him to liking him in an instance.
"The Lyon's Roar" is Empire at its best. It moves with breakneck speed between each scene, from recording sessions to parties, from backroom intrigue to backroom hookups.
