"Blood of My Blood," the sixth episode of the sixth season of Game of Thrones lacked much of the forward momentum...but Bran's intense final download of Westerosi history as he's being hauled through the snow... opened up new insights into the future.
The segment that followed took quite a significant turn from the books and many are not happy with it. Personally, I believe that this only gives the readers and the viewers twice as many chances to enjoy the story.
After last week's revelatory "The Door," Game of Thrones is faced with the unenviable challenge of competing with itself. Given how so many hours of the series this season have met that challenge head-on... it's not too worrisome a prospect.
It was a novelty to (for once) sit through an hour of Game of Thrones and not be reducing to a quivering heap of emotional jelly by the end. Steady as she goes -- and on to more searing developments in the weeks ahead.
