"Oathbreaker" is a crisp, lean, nicely paced episode of Game of Thrones. It's one of those episodes where the characters are mostly being positioned for future episodes, but it's a solidly executed version of that basic template.
Wise men of the hour: Lord Varys (Conleth Hill), who explained why torture's not as useful as some believe, and Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), who gave Jon the kind of pep talk a man just back from the dead most needs to hear.
This was a monster episode, and it was a monster episode because it fulfilled the promise of last week, which was itself a declaration: Things are about to start happening. And in "Oathbreaker..." things happened.
