The intimidating alias root sums it up all doesn't it ? Samantha Root Groves is a computer hacker at par with Harold Finch himself, the creator of The Machine . However unlike Finch, she also possesses the agility and mindset to kill to get things done, not to mention she is a talented assassin. She appears to be in love with Harold's creation, giving it almost a God like status. From childhood, computers made more sense to her than humans and she appreciates Harold for the fact that he shares the same understanding of technology like her. Her characters fits the plot perfectly, where Harold and John are trying to not let the machine go free, the government is trying to decode, understand and exploit it, apparently she wants to access the machine and set it free.
